My academic background includes a Master’s degree in Public Health, Certification as a Health Coach, Certification in Emotional Freedom Techniques/Tapping, Certification in Tapping Out of Trauma, and Certification as a Lactation Educator.
I have expertise in functional nutrition, mind-body stress management modalities, worksite wellness, mindfulness, chronic disease prevention, developmental trauma, attachment parenting, maternal and child health, environmental toxins, and reproductive health.
After working in managerial roles in the public health field for many years, I decided to enroll in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s Health Coach Training Program because I wanted to return to working more directly with clients rather than being a manager. Little did I know that this decision would transform my own health.
During my training in 2013, I broke up with sugar after recognizing that various seemingly random symptoms I was experiencing were related to an imbalance in my gut microbiome, which likely went back to eating habits that started in childhood. I've been eating clean (mostly real, whole foods) ever since and all those symptoms disappeared (fatigue, brain fog, heartburn, mood swings, and more).
Once I started coaching clients, I recognized that most struggled to stick to healthy eating habits because they had an ingrained pattern of soothing their stress and/or escaping from their emotions with food. This led me to integrate EFT/Tapping into my practice as a way to better address the underlying stress that results in emotional eating.
In 2016, I made another big decision. I took a leap of faith and left my job in the nonprofit sector to focus full-time on coaching. I am passionate about supporting both women who struggle with emotional eating and stressed-out employees to prioritize self-care.
As a holistic, mind-body practitioner, I recognize the importance of helping clients with both physical and emotional issues. Whether I’m working with private clients or employees, I address stress, eating habits, physical activity, sleep, toxins, self-care habits, and life balance.
My training and experience in maternal and child health, attachment parenting, trauma, and EFT Tapping inform my practice of helping clients release the patterns that may go back to early childhood experiences. This involves supporting clients to release emotional blocks, limiting beliefs, unhealthy habits, and stuck patterns that may have started as a protective mechanism, but no longer serve them.
My training in functional nutrition allows me to support clients in addressing the biochemical imbalances, gut, and dietary issues that can contribute to physical symptoms and health conditions, particularly diabetes, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, and other metabolic issues.
My background as a Latina from an immigrant, working-class family, and my experience in the social services sector influences my belief that culture, community, environment, and family play an important role in health and healing.
